Val’s Priorities

Rural Communities & Agriculture

Supporting rural Pennsylvanians and our agriculture economy.

As Chair of the Montgomery County Commission, Val represents rural communities and understands how hard they’ve been hit by the economic challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic. And as a physician, she’s seen firsthand the impact that the ways our rural communities have been overlooked and underserved has impacted residents’ health and economic well-being, leading to health disparities and inequities.

In the Senate, Val would bring a strong understanding of all the ways our health care system can better support rural communities and fight for those policies. To Val, that includes funding for rural hospitals so they can stay open and addressing staffing shortages in rural areas.

Val also supports federal investments that support local economies in Pennsylvania’s smallest towns and counties, from expanding broadband and strengthening the electrical grid, to making long-awaited upgrades to water and sewer systems that will help draw employers to these regions.

Val counts among her constituents families who have owned and operated farms for generations. She will always support Pennsylvania’s many farms and farmers. She understands that our agriculture and food production economy is critical to the strength of our economy. In Montgomery County, Val’s worked to preserve 10,000 acres of farmland. In the U.S. Senate, Val will support our dairy farmers and other important industries that make up our ag economy by making sure they have USDA assistance to protect them and their workers, and by advocating for additional resources for farms as they play a role in our efforts nationwide to fight climate change and improve water quality.
