Montgomery County Commissioner Dr. Val Arkoosh says the major labs like Quest and LabCorp are taking anywhere from eight to 14 days to get results back, but under a new contract the County has signed, with Mako Medical out of North Carolina, that lab has to turn around results within 36 hours.

“That should really, really help us do contact tracing because we’ll be getting results back so quickly,” she added.

She said a few things still need to be ironed out, like information technology integration, but she hopes they’ll start sending them samples within a week to 10 days.

The county will still have a contract with Quest.

She also said the county has seen an increase in the number of cases coming out of youth sports, including baseball, football, soccer, lacrosse, field hockey, and basketball.

Arkoosh reminded people playing sports to stay 6 feet apart in practice, on the bench, or in dugouts.
